I help mid-market CEOs cut through the AI hype and build strategies their people will actually use.

Steve Bauer, Founder of Bauer Consulting Group

In the next few years, the most successful companies will be the ones that engage their employees to combine human and artificial intelligence to drive business results.

Before founding Bauer Consulting Group in 2025, I spent 27 years at three of the world's largest communications agencies. I worked at FleishmanHillard for 15+ years, Weber Shandwick for 7+ years, and Edelman for 4 years, advising Fortune 500 executives through every major shift in how businesses communicate and compete.

As a Senior Partner at FleishmanHillard, I led communications strategy for clients including Johnson & Johnson, where I directed an agency team of 300+ people across the company's most complex global initiatives. I've built thought leadership platforms for executives, navigated reputation crises, and helped leadership teams adapt to digital, mobile, social, and AI-driven shifts in their operating environments.

Across all of it, the pattern was the same. Companies invest in new tools and bold strategies, then struggle to get their people to actually use them. The technology changes every few years. The human challenge stays the same.

Why AI strategy now

AI is the biggest shift in how businesses operate since the internet.

Most CEOs know they should be doing more with it, but they're stuck. They've bought the licenses. They've sent people to training. But adoption is flat. Pilots stall. The investment isn't translating to results.

The reason isn't technical. It's human. Leaders need help building strategies their teams will actually trust and use. That's the work I do now.

My approach

Start with your business goals, not the technology.

I work alongside your leadership team to build a strategy you own. I help your people understand what AI can do for them, not what it might do to them. And I focus on the change management that technology consultants typically skip.

If you invest in the platforms but not in your people, you're wasting your money. The companies winning with AI aren't the ones with the best tools. They're the ones with the culture and capability to use them.

Outside the work

I'm based in St. Louis, Missouri, and I serve mid-market clients across the United States. When I'm not consulting, I'm probably driving my kids around to sports or after-school activities.

I run Bauer Consulting Group as a solo practice. That means when you hire me, you get me. Not a junior consultant. Not a sales pitch. Just senior counsel from someone who's been in the room when the stakes are high.
